Paul McCartney World Tour Rumour

0

Paul McCartney is rumoured to be planning a short worldwide tour at the end of 2007. McCartney who is currently going through highly publicised divorce proceedings with his estranged wife Heather, is apparently planning to use the tour to distract himself from the messy court case. A ‘friend’ of McCartney has been quoted in today’s Evening Standard, saying that "Paul is going on a five-month world tour at the end of next year to get over Heather. He'll take in the USA, Australia, Japan and some of Europe as well.” The source also points out that “it is also rather a convenient way of recouping the losses he will make in the divorce courts". The McCartneys famously didn’t sign a pre-nuptial agreement when they married in 2002. The former Beatle’s last worldwide tour ended in 2004. Meanwhile, McCartney has recorded a duet, “The Very Thought Of You”, with singer Tony Bennett for his new album “Tony Bennett: Duets/ An American Classic.”

Mott the Hoople Retrospective On Its Way

0

A comprehensive 3-CD set of Mott The Hoople and Ian Hunter solo material is to be released next month. Entitled “The Journey” – the set includes Mott’s recordings from when they burst onto the glam rock scene in the late ‘60s – through to Hunter’s solo career. Highlights across the three discs include obvious classic top 3 hit, the Bowie written “All The Young Dudes”, "One Of The Boys", and "All The Way From Memphis" – the latter track featuring Roxy Music’s Andy McKay on saxophone. "Saturday Gigs" - Hunter’s last single before quitting in late ’74 – brilliantly betrays the weariness of the band about to break. “The Journey” includes three previously unreleased tracks from Ian Hunter’s infamous “Rant” sessions, as well as new liner notes with never seen before photos of Mott The Hoople at their glam peak. “The Journey-– A Retrospective of Mott the Hoople and Ian Hunter” is released through SonyBmg on November 13. Duran Duran split

In what can only be described as a sad day for music, Duran Duran’s reunited original line-up have once again split, with guitarist Andy Taylor walking out on the band, just as he did in 1985. In a message titled ‘to our fans’ posted on their MySpace page, Duran Duran confirm the departure citing personal and work differences. Remaining members Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John and Roger Taylor say in the group message: "As of last weekend, the four of us have dissolved our partnership and will be continuing as Duran Duran without Andy, as we have reached a point in our relationship with him where there is an unworkable gulf between us and we can no longer effectively function together. Although obviously disappointed and saddened about this, we are excited about the next chapter of the Duran Duran story and look forward to seeing you all soon." There is speculation that former Missing Persons guitarist Warren Cuccurullo, who was Duran's official guitarist from 1993 to 2001 might return as Taylor's replacement... Dylan – The Ever-Changing Set List

Bob Dylan has given live debuts to two more previously unplayed tracks from his new Modern Times album – with “Nettie More” and “Spirit On The Water” making their first appearances in his recent sets. Dylan had already featured four other tracks from the new album – “Workingman’s Blues No 2”, “Rollin’ And Tumblin’”, “When The Deal Goes Down” and “Thunder On The Mountain”. Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy Punches Fan

Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy has defended his actions during an incident at the band’s show on Monday October 16 at the Shrine Mosque in Springfield, Missouri, when Tweedy punched a male fan who had jumped on stage and grabbed him from behind. In a post on the band’s website, they explain that they had felt uncomfortable throughout the concert because of lax security that had already seen fans getting on stage and interrupting the show on two earlier occasions. “I wish it had gone another way,” Tweedy says on wilcoworld.net. “And I suspect had I felt safer on that stage, had security been doing a better job all night long, well, things would have gone differently. He approached me from behind and I reacted in defence to get him away. I didn’t know what his intentions were, and I had to get him off me. I’m sad that it happened at all.” Following the incident, tweedy told the Springfield crowd: “Here’s the deal. You guys get to stay down there and be nice or we can’t play. It’s scary when people come up when you’re trying to sing your heart out. Seriously, we don’t have to deal with that very often.” For film footage of the incident click here

Dylan Blog Day 5 Sustains The Pressure

0

Dylan as ever full of surprises Bob Dylan Bill Graham Civic, San Francisco Tuesday, October 17 2006 Dylan starts with “Maggie’s Farm”, follows it with “She Belongs To Me”, “Lonesome Day Blues”, “Simple Twist Of Fate” and “Rollin’ And Tumblin’” and your first thought is that as brilliant as these songs are being played, tonight’s set is going to be a shuffling of the pack. Songs you’ve heard, that is, over the last four shows, simply played in another order, the tour repertoire pretty much what’s been performed so far. Which is when, of course, Dylan starts lobbing in even more surprises. Like a fantastic version of “Boots Of Spanish Leather” almost too beautiful for words, with Donnie Herron’s violin to the fore and a guitar solo from Donny Freeman that sounds like something made of crystal cracking in slow motion. Dylan’s voice, meanwhile, fully recovered and showing none of the occasional fatigue of last night’s show, is a vehicle of profound and wavering loss, a postcard home from some outpost of love and longing that’s way off the map, too much aching grief in what he’s singing to easily accommodate, tears in the eyes of many. Next is a brusing bluesy “Till I Fell In Love With You”, a blistering thing. It’s hotly pursued by a radiant “I Shall Be Released” – the audience finding a voice of its own. Bob giving it everything, which is a lot, and then some more. Then there’s the best version yet on this tour of “Highway 61 Revisited” – played for five shows straight, but more searing tonight than ever, with a Doug Sahm-style keyboard solo from Dylan I swear wasn’t there the last time I looked. The venerable anti-war lament “John Brown” is next – as scarily appropriate as the version of “Masters Of War” played in Portland, Dylan finding another way of reminding us of the dismaying repetition of history, a fuming anger burning within it at what continues to happen to too many people in too many places, bullets flying everywhere and bombs going off in every direction. Donnie Herron’s stirring mandolin and George Recelli’s military drums make you want to march down the nearest street under a banner or blow up the White House and whoever’s in it. This is followed by a chiming “Most Likely You Go You’re Way (And I’ll Go Mine)”, keening pedal steel giving it a driving edge. From here, we’re into another tremendous reading of “Workingman’s Blues”, Dylan finding new ways to sing a song that like “Highway 61” we’ve heard at five consecutive shows, but which Dylan continues to invest with subtle new shadings. The closing jamboree of “Summer Days” and the three-song encore are the only things that are predictable, but when those three songs are “Thunder On The Mountain”, “Like A Rolling Stone” and “All Along The Watchtower”, hell, who’s complaining? Set list: San Francisco, California Bill Graham Civic Auditorium October 17, 2006 1. Maggie's Farm 2. She Belongs To Me 3. Lonesome Day Blues 4. Simple Twist Of Fate 5. Rollin' And Tumblin' 6. Dylan as ever full of surprises

Bob Dylan

Bill Graham Civic, San Francisco

Tuesday, October 17 2006

Dylan starts with “Maggie’s Farm”, follows it with “She Belongs To Me”, “Lonesome Day Blues”, “Simple Twist Of Fate” and “Rollin’ And Tumblin’” and your first thought is that as brilliant as these songs are being played, tonight’s set is going to be a shuffling of the pack.

Sandy West Has Died

0

Sandy West, drummer for influential '70s all-girl rock band The Runaways, died on October 21 after a long battle with lung cancer. West was a founding member of the Kim Fowley-formed, proto-punk band The Runaways, which featured fellow rockers Joan Jett, Lita Ford and Cherie Currie. Ex-band-mate Joan Jett made in a statement on The Runaways' website: “I started The Runaways with Sandy West. We shared the dream of girls playing rock and roll. Sandy was an exuberant and powerful drummer. So underrated, she was the caliber of John Bonham. I am overcome from the loss of my friend. I always told her, we changed the world.” Their discography includes over 60 albums, singles, bootlegs and punk compilations, and their biggest hit was 1975’s "Cherry Bomb.” When the group disbanded in 1979, West continued to sing and drum with “The Sandy West Band”. She recorded a collectible EP CD as well as numerous videos, and continued to enjoy the dedication of a cult following. Runaways vocalist and life-long friend Cherie Currie had this to add: “Sandy West was by far the greatest female drummer in the history of rock and roll. No one could compete or even come close to her.” Funeral services for Sandy West are pending. click here to go to The Runaways' website
