Garden State

Zach Braff writes, directs and stars in a romantic comedy about an actor who returns home to New Jersey.

Last Night Of The Promos

Scintillating songs let down by clumsy visuals

Wolfen

Thriller from '81 based on Whitley Strieber's novel, directed by Michael Woodstock Wadleigh, and by no means a conventional werewolf tale. Albert Finney is the cop investigating incredible gory deaths in New York... but are terrorists to blame, or animals, or Native American shape-shifters? Unusual camera techniques, a great performance from Finney, and a genuinely supernatural atmosphere that builds and builds.

Creature Comfits

Twenty-one-track greatest hits from Welsh genre-hopping psychonauts

Angels And Insects

Key works of the first New Pop star of the '80s remastered. Must be learnt by heart

Stand-Up For Your Rights

Tragicomic genius and founding father of black American humour filmed at his peak

Animal Collective – Sung Tongs

Magnificent, shape-shifting psych-folk

A Zed And Two Noughts

Early Peter Greenaway movie ('85), from when his undeniable visual genius wasn't yet smothered by pretentiousness. Zoologist twin widowers (!) mourn their wives but begin an affair with a survivor of the crash which killed them, whose leg's been amputated. And set the animals free from the zoo. Homages to Vermeer, a Michael Nyman score, and relentless perversity with a point. Exhilarating!
