Pogues guitarist Phil Chevron dies aged 56

Phil Chevron, the guitarist with the Pogues, has died, aged 56. A post on the Pogues website reads: "After a long illness Philip passed away peacefully this morning [October 8]. We all send our sincere condolences to his family." Chevron, whose real name was Philip Ryan, was first diagnosed with esophageal cancer in June 2007 and had been undergoing treatment since. Despite being given an all-clear in 2008, in May 2013, it was announced that the cancer had returned.

The Pogues to perform Rum, Sodomy & The Lash live

The Pogues are set to play their classic 1985 album Rum, Sodomy & The Lash at four separate shows in the UK this December. The band will visit Manchester O2 Apollo on December 15, before gigs at Glasgow O2 Academy (December 17) and two shows at London's O2 Academy Brixton on December 19 and 20. Tickets go on sale at 9.30am [BST] on September 27. As well as playing their second album in full, they will also perform other "favourite tracks".

The Pogues announce 30th anniversary show

The Pogues will celebrate their 30th anniversary with a one-off UK date this year. The band will play London's 02 Arena on December 20. The current line up is Shane MacGowan, Spider Stacy, Jem Finer, James Fearnley, Andrew Ranken, Philip Chevron, Terry Woods and Darryl Hunt.
