A month, perhaps, of surprises. On the rather intimidating new Scott Walker and Sunn O))) album, there appears to be a joke about Michael Flatley's testicles. Somewhere in the elevated aesthetics of Kate Bush's Before The Dawn, there's an equally dubious comedy routine that hinges on the punchline, "HP and mayo, it's the badger's nadgers." And then, just as we were finishing the new issue of Uncut (out today in the UK, as you may have seen), a U2 album suddenly materialised in iTunes, a bullish play to reassert them as the biggest pop group in the world.
Pink Floyd, Leonard Cohen, New Order and Fleetwood Mac all feature in the new issue of Uncut, dated November 2014 (Take 210) and out tomorrow (September 23).
The Rolling Stones have rescheduled Australia and New Zealand tour dates which were postponed following the death of Mick Jagger's partner L'Wren Scott on March 17.
Shows in Australia and New Zealand have been rescheduled for October, with the band set to start in Adelaide on October 25. The initial seven date tour has also increased with additional concerts in Perth and the Hunter Valley announced. Jimmy Barnes will support in Adelaide while Hunters & Collectors will open in Auckland on November 22.

We’re all still reeling from the shocking news of Lou Reed’s death on Sunday. Reading through the tributes that have poured in over the last few days, the one that’s resonated most with me came from John Cale, who in his wise and moving testimonial to his old sparring partner, wrote: “we have the best of our fury laid out on vinyl, for the world to catch a glimpse”. We’ll be running out own full tribute to Lou in a future issue of Uncut.
The Waterboys have unveiled the tracklisting for their six CD Fisherman's Box set.
Due to be released on October 14, the set comprises of tracks from the band's Fisherman's Blues sessions recorded between January 23, 1986 to June 2, 1988.
Mike Scott will be writing the liner notes with additional contributions from Decemberist Colin Meloy.

Not even creepy celebrity horse-whisperer Alan Yentob could wholly ruin last week’s highly entertaining BBC Arena special on Rod Stewart. His contributions were laughably witless all the same. “You look just like brothers!” he exclaimed excitedly of Rod and long-time mucker Ronnie Woods, which may have been true 40 years ago. These days they don’t even look like cousins.
