Portishead’s Beth Gibbons donates ‘glacial roar’ to Greenpeace

Portishead's Beth Gibbons has recorded a "glacial roar" for a giant polar bear that Greenpeace will use to lead a street protest in London next Sunday. The singer recorded a roar for the double-decker bus sized polar bear puppet called Aurora, which will feature a giant sound system in its head to play the sounds of ice cracking, Arctic wildlife, and other roars donated by members of the public. The march will be part of a global day of action to demand that the Arctic be protected from oil companies planning to drill in its waters.

Patti Smith to perform at Green Man festival

Patti Smith has been added to the line-up for this year's Green Man Festival. Smith will headline a night of live music in the Far Out Tent on the Thursday night (August 15) of the festival that runs between August 15 and 18. Smith's appearance, the only UK festival she will be performing at this Summer, will see her join a bill that includes Jon Langford, Matt Berry and Manchester band Money.

Metronomy, Savages, Coda added to Green Man Festival 2012

Metronomy, Savages and Coda have been added to the bill for this year's Green Man Festival. The festival, which will be headlined by Mogwai, Feist and Van Morrison, takes place in Wales' Brecon Beacons from August 17-19. Also newly added to the line-up are Loney Dear, Tom Williams & The Boat, Dizraeli & The Small Gods, Polaroid 85, Laid Blak and Heymoonshaker. They join a bill that already includes Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, The Walkmen, Jonathan Richman, The Felice Brothers, Tune-Yards, Of Montreal, King Creosote & Jon Hopkins, Michael Kiwanuka and over 30 other acts.

Mogwai to headline Green Man Festival 2012

Mogwai have been confirmed as the final headliner of this year's Green Man festival. The Scottish rockers, who released their seventh studio album 'Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will' in 2011, join Feist and Van Morrison in headlining the event, which takes place in Wales' Brecon Beacons from August 17-19. Also newly added to the line-up are Dexys, Cate Le Bon, Lower Dens, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Crybaby, Paul Thomas Saunders, Stuff, Withered Hand and King Charles.
