Anyone who’s read any of Robert Gordon’s previous books, like Can’t Be Satisfied, for instance, his great biography of Muddy Waters, will no doubt be looking forward to Respect Yourself: Stax Records And The Soul Explosion, Gordon’s history of the legendary Memphis label, which is published this month by Bloomsbury.
Outkast's Andre 3000 is set to cover songs by The Beatles and blues legend Muddy Waters in the forthcoming Jimi Hendrix biopic All Is By My Side.
The musician – real name Andre Benjamin – is taking the starring role in the new film, which is currently shooting in Ireland, though is actually set in London. The film will not feature any music or songs by Hendrix himself, as the late guitarist's estate have not granted permission for them to be used.
Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood is to reunite with former Rolling Stones members at a one-off gig this coming Saturday (June 30).
The show, curated by Wood, is a celebration of legendary blues label, Chess Records, home to Howlin’ Wolf, Chuck Berry, Etta James and Muddy Waters.
Taking place at London's HMV Hammersmith Apollo, Wood will be joined by the Stones' original bassist Bill Wyman and his immediate predecessor in the band, guitarist Mick Taylor.
Guitarist Pete Cosey, who recorded with Miles Davis, Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters, has died aged 68, according to Associated Press.
Cosey died on May 30 of complications from surgery at Vanguard Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
In the 1960s, Cosey was a member of the studio band at Chess Records in Chicago, where he played on Waters' Electric Mud album and Howlin' Wolf's Howlin' Wolf Album. He also worked with Etta James and Chuck Berry.
