Ultimate Music Guide: Paul Weller

Wake up the nation! Over the past 35 years, Paul Weller has asserted himself, time and time again, as one of the most potent figures in British music: impassioned, tireless, single-minded, brilliant. In the latest Uncut Ultimate Music Guide, we tell Weller's complete story, from the seismic arrival of The Jam, through the inventive subversions of The Style Council, and on to his rich and varied two decades as a solo artist.

Dolly Parton and Harry Dean Stanton are both in this month's Uncut, a bit of a dream come true. I was scheduled to interview Dolly once myself, at a rodeo in Spokane, which seemed too good to be true.

PAUL WELLER, THE SPECIALS, THE BEAT, UB40, SOUL II SOUL and THE FARM recall a time when mass unemployment energised a whole generation to learn one chord, learn another, form a band - and then make an insurrectionist statement on Cheggers Plays Pop...'

Paul Weller added to Isle Of Wight festival lineup

Paul Weller has been confirmed to perform at Isle Of Wight Festival this year, appearing directly before The Stone Roses on the main stage. The festival will also be headlined by Bon Jovi and The Killers in 2013. Speaking about his appearance on the Friday night, Paul Weller says: "It's been a while since I've played the Isle Of Wight Festival and I'm excited to be playing it this year, it's a great way to kick off the summer."

January 2013

This is the last Uncut of 2012, rather unbelievably. It barely seems 12 months since I sat down to write the column that introduced our final issue of 2011. How much faster can time go by?
