George Harrison box set due for release

A box set of George Harrison's first six solo albums will be released on September 22. The albums will be released in a box set called George Harrison: The Apple Years 1968 - 75 and they will also be available separately. The albums have been digitally remastered from the original analogue masters for CD and digital release. They are available now for preorder, both individually in digipaks and together within the deluxe, eight-disc boxed edition.

George Harrison memorial tree killed by infestation of beetles

A tree planted in memory of George Harrison has died after being infested by beetles. The pine in Los Angeles' Griffith Park was planted in 2004 as a tribute Harrison, who passed away in 2001 in the city. A plaque on the tree read: "In memory of a great humanitarian who touched the world as an artist, a musician and a gardener." It also featured a quote from Harrison: "For the forests to be green, each tree must be green."

George Harrison guitar sells for over £390,000 at auction

A guitar previously owned and played by George Harrison has sold for £390,653 at auction. The black-and-white 1962 Rickenbacker 425 was bought in Mount Vernon, Illinois in 1963 and was used by Harrison during performances that same year on shows Ready Steady Go! and Thank Your Lucky Stars. It was also played in the studio during the sessions which resulted in the recordings of "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and "This Boy" in October 1963.

We’re all still reeling from the shocking news of Lou Reed’s death on Sunday. Reading through the tributes that have poured in over the last few days, the one that’s resonated most with me came from John Cale, who in his wise and moving testimonial to his old sparring partner, wrote: “we have the best of our fury laid out on vinyl, for the world to catch a glimpse”.
