Gruff Rhys has been shortlisted for the Gordon Burn Prize for his book American Interior.
Rhys has been nominated alongside five other writers for a £5,000 award for his writings, part of a multimedia project which included an album and a film.
The prize, now in its second year, will be judged by comedian, actor and musician Julian Barratt, poet John Burnside, artist Sarah Lucas and novelist Benjamin Myers, who won the award last year for his book, Pig Iron.

No longer having to rely on real-time performing, the first two acts on tonight at the final night of Club Uncut at The Great Escape have been able to take folk to stranger, new climes.
Historic music club Friars Aylesbury is the focus of a major new rock music exhibition featuring rare memorabilia from David Bowie, Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground, Iggy Pop, Queen, Genesis, Blondie and more.
Entitled The Evolution of Friars (1969-2014), the exhibition runs from March 1 – July 5, 2014 at the Buckinghamshire County Museum in Aylesbury, and will feature rare posters, photographs and memorabilia from Friars archive as well as unique items on loan from artists who have performed there.

While last night's Club Uncut at Brighton's Great Escape festival hosted bands with a definite Americana bent, Friday (May 17) sees the invasion of US-based (or -inspired) garage-rockers.
Another year, another three days of fantastic music at Brighton's Dome Studio Theatre, curated by Uncut, as part of The Great Escape – this year promises perhaps the most high-energy lineup yet at Club Uncut, with highlights over the weekend including Mikal Cronin, White Fence and Allah-Las. But first, Thursday (May 16) sees Phosphorescent headlining.
Bob Dylan has been voted an honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the first time a rock musician has received the high honor.
The Academy is an exceedingly exclusive club to join. Beside the honorary members, a scant 250 members populate the New York-based institution, with new inductees only to replace the dead. Honorary members are rare, too; there are a mere 82, only 12 of whom are American.
