The 14th Uncut Playlist Of 2014

Bit of a rush in the face of deadlines this morning, but a strange list – not all of it recommended, really – with a notable discovery in Mike Cooper, whose early ‘70s albums work well as companion pieces to those of Michael Chapman. Anyone who knows his work, and knows more, drop me a line.

The Rolling Stones, Hyde Park, London, July 13, 2013

We find ourselves in the wrong bar by mistake. Arriving at Hyde Park for this second London show on the Stones' 50 & Counting tour, we're issued with numerous coloured plastic wristbands that are intended to identify where we can travel around the site. There is this bar, that tier, this restaurant, these toilets... one of the first questions we're asked as we enter the site is whether we have a dinner reservation.

The National receive hate mail for supporting Barack Obama

The National received hate mail for supporting US President Barack Obama's campaign for four more years in the oval office. The band were sent "hate mail on Facebook" for playing a Democratic campaign rally for the incumbent President in Des Moines last month, according to guitarist/keyboardist Aaron Dessner. Despite the criticism, the Brooklyn group say they stand by their decision to publically support Obama as the election is "more important than any rock band".

Lou Reed, Royal Festival Hall, London, August 10 2012

Lou Reed at 70 arrives onstage at the Festival Hall to do his bit for Antony Hegarty’s Meltdown programme dressed like a stroppy teenager in a baggy black basketball vest, gold medallions around his neck and what looks like a pair of tracksuit bottoms. He looks frail these days, though tonight slightly less so than last year at the Hammersmith Apollo, and perhaps no wonder when you consider what he’s put his body through over the years before he embraced his current sobriety.
