John Martyn, RIP

This morning's sad news of John Martyn's death reminded me of a particularly colourful encounter I had with him, back in what they call the day, which I wrote about in my regular Stop Me If You've Heard This One Before column in Uncut in July 2004 and re-print below. Adios, John.

And still the Animal Collective fans keep coming, with a few requests for the durations of the “Merriweather Post Pavilion” tracks. Here they come: bear in mind that “Brothersport” could easily go on for another five or ten minutes as far as I’m concerned.

Oasis and class

A bit late in the day, but I just got round to reading a couple of things in this morning's Guardian. One is Matt Bolton's piece on the class war in British indie. The other is Alexis Petridis' customarily thought-provoking review of Oasis' "Dig Out Your Soul".
