For many of us who came of age in the mid '80s, The Smiths probably provided the soundtrack to a political maturing as much as an emotional one. My epochal moment of teenage rebellion came on July 23, 1986, a day I had strategically reserved for the purchase of The Queen Is Dead, so as to coincide with the wedding of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.
Atoms For Peace have been announced as the headliner for two festivals this July.
Thom Yorke’s side project with Flea, Nigel Godrich, Mauro Refosco and Joey Waronker will play The Melt! Festival in Ferropolis, Germany and the Exit Festival in Novi Sad, Serbia.
Melt!, now in its 16th year, will also include Alt-J, Django Django, Dan Deacon and The Knife. It takes place between July 19 and 21. Tickets are €119 (£102.85) plus fees including a €5 garbage disposal surcharge.
This is the last Uncut of 2012, rather unbelievably. It barely seems 12 months since I sat down to write the column that introduced our final issue of 2011. How much faster can time go by?
The first bands on the bill for TV On The Radio and Deerhunter's 2013 ATP festivals have been unveiled.
The first weekend, which will be curated by TV On The Radio (May 10-12, 2013), will see performances from TV On The Radio, Spank Rock, El-P, Saul Williams, Tinariwen, Shabazz Palaces, Thee Oh Sees, CSS, Daniel Higgs (Lungfish), Celebration, Talibam! and North America.

A good week, in that I wrote a couple of new blogs about the Allah-Las and Dan Deacon albums, finally tracked down a copy of “Meet “Mississippi” Charles Bevel”, and heard the Baird Sisters’ beautiful record (one of them is Meg Baird from Espers) and Four Tet’s “Pink” comp.
A couple of notable absences here, I guess, since there remains no sign of Neil Young & Crazy Horse’s “Psychedelic Pill” (as we’re currently assuming it’s called), and only the editor has heard Bob Dylan’s “Tempest”, in some kind of fortified panic room at the Sony offices.
