The church in which Arcade Fire recorded two of their studio albums has been listed for sale, according to reports.
The band recorded their 2007 LP Neon Bible and 2010 record The Suburbs at the building in Farnham, Quebec in Canada but, according to Pitchfork, were forced to leave the church behind after the roof collapsed. With the group now working on their fourth studio album in a new location, they posted an advertisement for the building on their Twitter account.
A fairly inhospitable place to be on a Sunday night: just on the edge of the City, near Old Street roundabout, in the cellar of what used to be an almost permanently empty Chinese restaurant. This is the venue for, I think, only the second London show by Emeralds, a night subtitled “A Brave New World In Sound”.
In spite of my morbid suspicions about any record which features Har Mar Superstar, I find myself quite taken with the first album by Neon Neon. It's called "Stainless Style", and maybe it's acting as a kind of antidote to all the manly Led Zeppelin love I've indulged in these past few days.
I suspect few records released in 2007 are going to provoke as much argument as this second Arcade Fire album, "Neon Bible". A week before the official release date, you can already feel it coming, as inexorable as the tidal waves and imprecations of doom that fill Win Butler's lyrics.
