I reviewed The Velvet Underground: 45th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition for new issue of Uncut. It's a comprehensive, six-disc set compiling the band's third album in an assortment of mixes, plus 1969 demos and a live recording from The Matrix in San Francisco. Of course, it marks the first album the band recorded after John Cale had left, with Doug Yule assuming bass and (some) vocal duties. I was fortunate enough to speak to both Yule and Mo Tucker for a Q&A to accompany my review.

Patti Smith to perform new work inspired by Velvet Underground vocalist Nico

Patti Smith has joined forces with international art group Soundwalk Collective (Stephan Crasneanscki, Simone Merli and Kamran Sadeghi) to perform the poetry of Nico. The piece, called Killer Road, is an immersive aural journey based on the day the Velvet Underground vocalist died in Ibiza in 1988. The performance pairs a multi-instrumental soundscape, also featuring Nico’s signature harmonium sound, with Patti Smith reciting the last unpublished poems by the German chanteuse.

The Velvet Underground to release White Light/White Heat anniversary edition

The Velvet Underground are to reissue their second album, White Light/White Heat, according to a story on Rolling Stone. The album, which celebrates its 45th anniversary this year, will reportedly be reissued as a three-disc deluxe edition on December 3 through Universal Music.

Velvet Underground settle ‘banana’ dispute with Andy Warhol Foundation

The Velvet Underground have settled their dispute with the Andy Warhol Foundation over the rights to the Warhol-designed 'banana' logo on the sleeve of the band's 1967 debut album, The Velvet Underground And Nico. The band sued the foundation last year after it licensed the 'banana' logo from their debut for use on iPhone and iPad products, reports Associated Press.
