Wild Beasts, Teenagersintokyo, Dead Confederate, The Fiery Furnaces: Club Uncut @ The Great Escape, May 14 2010

The hiccup of The Slits’ no-show on day one of Club Uncut’s residency at Brighton’s Great Escape didn’t dampen spirits for last night’s more typically full-on and varied affair.

Avi Buffalo, Summer Camp, The Ruby Suns – Club Uncut @ The Great Escape, Brighton, May 13, 2010

Club Uncut has decamped to the seaside for the duration of The Great Escape, the three-day festival in which mostly new bands fill Brighton’s plentiful pubs and clubs. Our weekend starts, though, with a disappointment, when The Slits are a late cancellation, leaving a contingent of Northern Irish girls I meet here specifically to see them in a mood of gloomy resentment.

The 33rd Uncut Playlist Of 2009

Apologies for the radio silence these past couple of weeks – I’ve been on holiday a long way from the CD mountain, catching up on some well-earned silence. Thanks for all your correspondence in the meantime, not least the kind words about my “Seeing For Miles” comp, and the Brazilian contributions to the Os Mutantes piece.

Telepathe: “Dance Mother”

Much as I love the TV On The Radio album, I wonder sometimes if all the hype surrounding David Sitek might be a bit out of hand. For a start, reading some of the stories about “Dear Science”, you’d be forgiven for imagining that he made the entire record single-handed, when in fact virtually all the songwriting was handled by the band’s vocalists and, perhaps, creative heart, Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone.

The Factory Catalogue

Sad news of course this weekend, with the passing of Tony Wilson. I can't add much to Stephen Dalton's excellent obit. But I thought it'd be a useful tribute to put online the full Factory Catalogue that we compiled for Uncut's recent Book Of Revelations.
