Portishead are to reissue their 1994 album Dummy to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
The Bristol band have decided against adding any additional material to the re-release, however, the first 1000 copies of Dummy will be pressed on blue vinyl. The record comes packaged in a gatefold sleeve and also includes a digital download card. Pre-orders can be made from Portishead's website from August 13.
The band have a number of festival dates confirmed for the rest of the summer and will play:
Route Du Rock, St Malo, France (August 15)
Portishead's Beth Gibbons has covered Black Sabbath's 1971 song "Black Sabbath" as Black Sabbeth.
The track, which you can hear by clicking below is by Bristol based stoner rock band Gonga and features Gibbons on vocals. Meanwhile, back in February, Adrian Utley of Portishead said that the band members were "clearing our schedules" in order to work on their fourth album.
Portishead's Beth Gibbons has recorded a "glacial roar" for a giant polar bear that Greenpeace will use to lead a street protest in London next Sunday.
The singer recorded a roar for the double-decker bus sized polar bear puppet called Aurora, which will feature a giant sound system in its head to play the sounds of ice cracking, Arctic wildlife, and other roars donated by members of the public.
The march will be part of a global day of action to demand that the Arctic be protected from oil companies planning to drill in its waters.
I don’t know about you, but I’m still reeling from final episodes of Top Of The Lake and Southcliffe on television over the weekend. Both, I suppose, had a loose thematic link - they were studies of tragedy in small communities - and I think in the end I preferred Southcliffe’s open-endedness to Top Of The Lake’s flurry of final act revelations; but that said, they were both brilliant TV, easily among the best things I've seen this year.
Compared to the number of people packed in to see The Lumineers and Foals on the Other Stage earlier today, headliners Portishead had a much smaller crowd - after all, they're up against Arctic Monkeys on the Pyramid Stage, and Geoff Barrow and co are hardly feelgood fodder for festivals.
