Dan Michaelson is not a particularly prolific Tweeter, but between musing about IKEA hotdogs and the time he DJed in Topshop (playing John Tavener, Laurie Anderson and ESG back-to-back) he found time to re-Tweet a backhanded compliment from a thoughtful soul called @recordshopbloke. “I do like Dan Michaelson's records,” said the bloke, “but sometimes it’s a bit like a mate on the phone going on endlessly about his tragic life.”

Lou Reed leaves $30m fortune

Lou Reed has left a total of $30 million (£17.5m) in his will - including $20.4m (£12m) in royalties earned since his death in October 2013. According to documents lodged with Manhattan Surrogate Court by Reed's manager Robert Gotterer, the singer's estate totals $30m (£17.5m), with two-thirds of that having been gathered by Gotterer since Reed's death at the age of 71 last year.

‘Definitive’ Lou Reed biography to be published

A "definitive" biography of Lou Reed is in the works, it has been confirmed. Titled Lou: A New York Life, the biography will be written by Rolling Stone writer Will Hermes, who has promised the book will tell the "full, definitive" story of the former Velvet Underground frontman's life. The book will be published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux and has no current release date.

Public memorial for Lou Reed to take place in New York this week

A public tribute to Lou Reed will take place in New York on Thursday (November 14). New York: Lou Reed at Lincoln Center will take place between 1-4pm at the Paul Milstein Pool & Terrace at Lincoln Center in New York later this week. A post on Lou Reed's Facebook page claims that the event is, "A gathering open to the public - no speeches. no live performances, just Lou's voice, guitar music & songs - playing the recordings selected by his family and friends."

Patti Smith pays tribute to “kind” Lou Reed

Patti Smith has written a tribute to the late Lou Reed, commenting on The Velvet Underground frontman's "kindness, sincerity and empathy". Writing in The New Yorker, Smith recounts first meeting Reed in the 1970s when she was taken to see The Velvet Underground by a friend. She also recalls seeing Reed with his wife, Laurie Anderson, recently and sensing that her friend was ill.

Lou Reed dies aged 71

Lou Reed has died, aged 71. Reed died at his home on Long Island of an ailment that stemmed from his recent liver transplant. The New York Times reports that Dr. Charles Miller, the surgeon who performed the transplant on Reed at the Cleveland Clinic in April this year, revealed that Reed was back in Ohio last week for further treatment.
