Michael Stipe and Courtney Love join forces on Johnny Depp’s ‘pirate’ album – listen

Courtney Love and REM's Michael Stipe have collaborated on a track for Johnny Depp's forthcoming album of sea shanties – listen to it below. The track, titled 'Rio Grande', will appear on the pirate-themed album 'Son of Rogue's Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs and Chanteys', which is set for release on February 18. The album is being put together by Johnny Depp, director Gore Verbinski and producer Hal Willner and follows their similar 2006 effort, 'Rogue's Gallery'.

The track Tom Waits recorded with Keith Richards for Johnny Depp's latest compilation album has been revealed. The duo teamed up to record a cover of the ballad "Shenandoah" as part of a pirate themed compilation album, called Son Of Rogue's Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs And Chanteys. OK, I’ve managed to remember 143 albums that came out this year and that I liked. As in previous years, I didn’t see much point in hacking my list down to a Top 100, or Top 50, or whatever. While it’d be a stretch to claim every one is an imperishable classic, I do feel broadly confident recommending them all.

The Fifth Uncut Playlist Of 2011

Finishing the issue, so have to be quick today. It all goes a bit early ‘90s towards the bottom of the list this week. Nice to dig out the Suntanama records from about a decade ago, though, prompted by the discovery that Dave Shuford/D Charles Speer figured in their lineup.
