This month in Uncut

The Ramones, the Small Faces, Neil Young and Stephen Malkmus all feature in the new issue of Uncut, dated March 2014 and out now.

Revealed! The New Uncut! Ramones, Small Faces, Beck, Neil Young, The Beatles + The 50 Greatest American Punk Albums!

The new issue of Uncut arrives in UK shops this Friday – though subscribers should hopefully find their copies plonking through the letter box a day or two early. We celebrate 40 years of the Ramones with an extensive cover story by Peter Watts, who’s interviewed surviving band members as well as many of their co-conspirators, friends and peers. To compliment Peter’s terrific piece, we’ve compiled a list of the 50 Greatest American Punk Albums (plus singles and compilations), from the pivotal years of 1975 to 1983.

The Best Albums Of 2014 (thus far…)

Happy new year, everyone. Since we’re into 2014 now, and (perhaps more pertinently) since all of our 2013 charts generated so much traffic to www.www.uncut.co.uk last month, I thought it’d be useful/cynical to post a Best Of 2014 (Thus Far) list.

The 47th Uncut Playlist Of 2013

The last playlist of 2013, I think, and – as you’ll see – a bunch of faithful retainers slipping back in with 2014 releases. Not sure I can believe I’m ending the year with an embedded video of Tears For Fears covering Animal Collective, but there you go.

The 46th Uncut Playlist Of 2013

We have about 24 hours to finish the next issue, and not much longer to complete another Uncut Ultimate Music Guide due in January, so no preamble this week: lots to hear and anticipate below. (Thanks, though, for all your feedback on my Best Of 2013 list; much appreciated, as ever).

The 45th Uncut Playlist Of 2013, + Ryley Walker and the Sound Of 2014

Not uncharacteristically, I’ve spent the past few days repressing a bunch of unnecessary rage about the publicity afforded the BBC’s Sound Of 2013 poll. Not so much because of the artists selected, but because of the way it effectively presents an ultimatum to new talent: have something resembling success in the next 12 months, or else people will weary of your miserable underachievement and move on to the next batch of hopefuls.

David Byrne & St Vincent revealed as final End Of The Road festival headliners

David Byrne & St Vincent are set to join Sigur Ros and Belle And Sebastian in headlining this summer's End Of The Road festival. Talking Heads man David Byrne and Annie Clark of St Vincent released their acclaimed debut collaborative album, 'Love This Giant', last year. A host more new bands have also been announced for the event, which takes place in Larmer Tree Gardens, North Dorset from August 30 to September 1.

The First Uncut Playlist Of 2013

Happy new year, everybody. Bit of a tentative start to 2013, though the new issue with Gram Parsons on the cover has just arrived in UK shops. A plug, too, for the next Uncut Ultimate Music Guide, dedicated to The Beatles, which I think is out January 17.
