The surviving members of the Beastie Boys have won $1.7 million (£1.01 million) in their copyright lawsuit against Monster Beverage Corp.
The case centred on a video created by the corporation which used five Beastie Boys songs in a "Beastie Boys Megamix" and flashed the message "RIP MCA" on screen to promote a show in 2012 without the band's knowledge or permission. The late Adam 'MCA' Yauch stated in his will that his likeness or art, including his work with the Beastie Boys, was not to be used for advertising purposes.
Prince played the smallest so far of his London 'Hit and Run' gigs yesterday [February 17], performing at the 250 capacity Ronnie Scott's venue.
The set included a surprise cover version of The Waterboys' "The Whole Of The Moon". The song – originally released in 1985 – is long rumoured to have been written about Prince. The band have denied this but singer Mike Scott told Uncut that the sound was inspired by Prince.
In the next edition of Uncut, out on September 25 in the UK, Alastair McKay recounts a recent trip to Mike Scott’s flat in Dublin. McKay is there to interview Scott for a piece on the making of The Waterboys’ “Fisherman’s Blues”, a wonderful album which, imminently, will be memorialised by a 7CD compilation of its epic sessions, “Fisherman’s Box”.

This month’s issue of Uncut (June 2013) features The Waterboys discussing their mammoth new Fisherman’s Box release – here, in this archive feature from Uncut’s July 2008 issue, the band, including Mike Scott and Karl Wallinger, reflect on the creation of their pop masterpiece, The Whole Of The Moon. Mike D and Ad-Rock have reportedly signed a deal to release their memoirs in 2015.
The book comes following the two remaining members of the Beastie Boys signing a deal with Random House imprint, Spiegel & Grau. The New York Times reports that the book is currently untitled and that it is unlikely to follow the structure of a traditional biography, focusing instead on a "pastiche of voices, images, irreverent humor and pop-culture reference points".
The Waterboys will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Fisherman’s Blues with a box set of the album and a UK tour.
Due for release on October 14, Fisherman’s Box will comprise a seven-disc set with 121 tracks from the album sessions, including 85 unreleased tracks. Mike Scott will be writing the liner notes with additional contributions from Decemberist Colin Meloy.
The tour, which begins in December, will reunite Scott and Steve Wickham with Fisherman's-era members Anto Thistlethwaite and Trevor Hutchinson alongside current Waterboys drummer Ralph Salmins.
