R.E.M., Nirvana and Sleater-Kinney members form supergroup

R.E.M's Peter Buck and Corin Tucker of Sleater-Kinney are recording with Nirvana bass player Krist Novoselic, it has been revealed. It was recently announced that Buck and Tucker had formed the band Super-Earth alongside guitarist Scott McCaughey (Minus 5), drummer Bill Rieflin (Swans, Ministry) and guitarist Kurt Bloch. That line-up of the band made their live debut in Portland last week (April 30).

Nirvana approached PJ Harvey for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony

Dave Grohl has revealed that Nirvana approached PJ Harvey and a number of male rock stars to fill in for Kurt Cobain at the band's Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony. The event, which took place at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on April 10, saw four female performers stand in for Cobain: St Vincent, Joan Jett, Kim Gordon and Lorde.

Nirvana followed their Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction by playing an intimate show at Brooklyn's Saint Vitus, which has a capacity of 230. As reported by Noisey, the band were joined by a series of guest singers, beginning with Joan Jett, who opened the show with "Smells Like Teen Spirit", "Breed", "In Bloom" and "Territorial Pissings".
