Morrissey has been hospitalised with a suspected bladder infection, forcing him to cancel US tour dates.

He was admitted to Beaumont Hospital on Friday in Royal Oak, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, where he was said to be undergoing further tests. He had already cancelled the show scheduled for Thursday night in Flint, Michigan, and another in Minneapolis on Friday, originally citing an illness in the band as a reason for pulling out.

It has since come to light it was actually the singer himself who was ill, leading to the cancellation of another event on Saturday night in Chicago. A spokesperson for the singer declined to say whether Morrissey has been released from hospital, but did say further details would be made public when known.

He began a US tour earlier in January, and is currently scheduled to perform in Nashville, Atlanta and Las Vegas among other cities. It is not yet known whether these shows will go ahead as planned.

The cancelled and postponed gigs were already part of numerous dates rescheduled from October last year, when Morrissey stopped the shows mid-tour to return to the UK to be with his ill mother. She has since recovered.
