This weekend (August 18-19) sees the twelfth V Festival take place in Chelmsford and Staffordshire. There’s a fantastic selection of music on offer at V, from classic veterans to buzzing newer bands, which we at Uncut will be previewing every day in the run up to the festival.
Main stage headliners Foo Fighters rose out of the ashes of Nirvana in 1995 with their self-titled collection of Grohl’s demos, an endearingly scrappy collection of grungy pop songs. Since then, the band have steadily moved closer to classic rock territory, maturing into a band who know their way around both a punishing riff and a timeless melody.
While albums like “One By One”, “The Colour And The Shape” and “There Is Nothing Left To Lose” have their spectacular moments, it’s in the live arena that Foo Fighters really shine, blending their razor-sharp hooks with rock theatrics and a healthy dose of humour.
Expect more hits at their V set than you ever realised they had, including “Everlong”, “Learn To Fly”, “Best Of You”, “Monkey Wrench” and “All My Life”. The ultimate guilty rock pleasure, you’d be hard pressed to find a better live band on the bill.
Other performers at V include Primal Scream, Kanye West, Manic Street Preachers, The Coral, Babyshambles and Jarvis Cocker.
Uncut will be blogging from V Festival all weekend bringing you updates from the action, so take a look at Uncut’s festival blog.
