MIA: ‘My new album will sound like Paul Simon on acid’

MIA has described her forthcoming new album as sounding like Paul Simon "on acid". The singer made the comment on Twitter, after telling fans she would answer 10 questions about the follow-up to 2010's Maya. She also explained that the record would be released in December, alongside a book, documentary and art exhibition. Some of the tweets have subsequently been deleted.

Coconuts’ “Coconuts” and Mushroom’s “Naked, Stoned & Stabbed”

A couple of neat psych-ish things today that I’ve been meaning to write about for a while. First up, Coconuts, an Australian group relocated to New York, whose scouring dirges make them one of the more incongruously-named I’ve come across recently.

Jenny Lewis: “Acid Tongue”

I received an email a while back from an Uncut writer who’d just played “Acid Tongue” for the first time. “I can reveal that on this Jenny Lewis,” they wrote, “her father gets it in the neck, in the way her mother got it in the neck last time... pretty good.”

Elbow, The House Of Love, Acid Brass

To the Music And Film Arena, for The Fairey Band, a traditional brass band who appear to have been sucked into a conceptual art project by Jeremy Deller. The gist is that the band play acid house tunes, with euphoniums and tubas filling in the bass frequencies.

Black Acid!

I got an email from someone the other day about a new band helmed by Richard Fearless, the sometime leader of Death In Vegas. Of Black Acid, they said, “Half of it sounds like a Japanese sixth form band doing Mary Chain covers. Half of it sounds like Bobby Gillespie telling you about records he likes while trying to play them. The first song is ten minutes of backwards noise.”
