Metallica have defended their Glastonbury headline set, with drummer Lars Ulrich saying that the fact that people are debating the slot means "people still care".
Speaking on Radio 1's Rock Show, Ulrich commented: "The fact that everyone's got an opinion I'll take as a good thing because it means that people still care and are still interested and we still have one foot in relevance of some sort."
Metallica performed their 1988 track "The Frayed Ends Of Sanity" live for the first time ever last night (May 28).
The band played the track from the ...And Justice For All album at Sonisphere Festival in Helsinki. The show was part of the Metallica By Request series of gigs, where the setlist for the evening is chosen by fans voting for songs they want to hear from a collection of 130 tracks.
Mick Jagger has said that he thinks Metallica are going to be "great" when they headline this year's Glastonbury Festival.
Metallica are the first metal artists to headline Glastonbury in its 44-year history, and will perform on the Saturday night.
"I've seen them live and they're going to be great," Jagger told The Sun, adding that The Rolling Stones had a "great time" headlining the event.
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has said the band would love to play Glastonbury Festival, saying they are "ready to go" as and when Michael Eavis needs them.
Metallica are set to release the soundtrack for their forthcoming 3D feature film Metallica - Through The Never on September 23.
Metallica - Through The Never (Music from the Motion Picture) will comprise two CDs and includes tracks from their shows last year at Rexall Place in Edmonton and Rogers Arena in Vancouver, the gigs where the band recorded all their performance footage for the movie. A vinyl version will be available later in the year. The film will be released in the US on September 27 and in the UK later this autumn.
Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett has confirmed that the metallers will start work on their new album "soon".
The band, who are currently working on a 3D film project, which is helmed by Predators director Nimród Antal, will start work on the follow-up to 2008's Death Magnetic soon, Hammett told Rolling Stone.
Following drummer Lars Ulrich's comments that the band already had "tons of ideas sitting around", he said:

The track is taken from to a new Deep Purple tribute album, which is titled Re-Machined: A Tribute to Machine Head, and will see a selection of acts including Iron Maiden, Chickenfoot and The Flaming Lips covering each of the tracks on Deep Purple's classic 1972 album Machine Head.
