The Replacements play classic track ‘Alex Chilton’ on ‘The Tonight Show’

The Replacements appeared on The Tonight Show last night (September 9). The cult alt rock band performed 'Alex Chilton' from their fifth album, 1987's 'Pleased to Meet Me', on the Jimmy Fallon hosted show. The performance comes 30 years after the group were banned from 'The Tonight Show' studio at 30 Rockefeller Center, New York after a chaotic performance on Saturday Night Live. Alex Turner: “Rock’n’roll will never die”.

Alex Turner made a defiant speech in support of rock'n'roll at last night's Brit Awards [February 19], where Arctic Monkeys becoming the first band to claim a Brits-double of British Group and British Album for a third time. Collecting British Group, Alex Turner said: "There's that 15 quid we put on One Direction to win down the drain." He declined to make a list of thank-yous, saying: "They need to hear their names read out as much as you need to hear another list of names of people you don't know."

Alex Turner teases next Arctic Monkeys album

Alex Turner has discussed the possibility of a follow-up to the Arctic Monkeys current album AM. Speaking in this week's NME, which is available digitally and on newsstands now, Turner says he already has an idea for the record, mentioning the fact that a similar idea led to the creation of AM.

A live performance by Alex Chilton recorded on February 13, 1997 at The Knitting Factory in New York is to be released on October 21. The venue suffered a power cut, although Chilton stayed on and entertained fans for an hour with an acoustic set consisting of cover versions. The 18-song set is to be released as the Electricity By Candlelight album on the Bar/None label. John Cooper Clarke: “Alex Turner’s a fantastic lyricist”

John Cooper Clarke has said he thinks Alex Turner is a "fantastic lyricist". The poet's work, "I Wanna Be Yours", is put to music on the new Arctic Monkeys album AM, which will be released on September 9.

Suede announce Alexandra Palace show for March 2013

Suede have confirmed that they will play London's Alexandra Palace in March 2013. The band will perform at the north London venue on March 30. The gig announcement came at the end of a puzzle-style countdown Suede put on their Facebook page last week. The first revelation that came from the online game was that a new Suede studio album will be released in 2013. Earlier this autumn, Suede frontman Brett Anderson said that Suede's new album sounds like "a cross between bits of 'Dog Man Star' and bits of 'Coming Up'".
