Probably best known for her jazz-toned, easy-swinging smash hit from 1979,‘Chuck E’s In Love’ and for once having stepped out with Tom Waits, Jones affects a distinctive style which blends R&B, folk, Beat poeticism and jazz in a foil for her impressively supple, slightly smokey voice.


Over the years, she’s flirted with slick, synth-driven sounds and worked with both Walter Becker and The Blue Nile, but cultish and effortlessly cool is the natural habitat of the artist Quincy Jones once fittingly described as “unique unto herself”.

Rickie Lee Jones plays the Uncut Arena on Saturday July 14.
Latitude takes place July 12 – 15 at Henham Park, Southwold, Suffolk.
