R.E.M. have sped to number one in the UK album’s chart today (April 6) with their fourteenth album ‘Accelerate’.
R.E.M.’s follow-up to 2004’s ‘Around The Sun’ has knocked soul newcomer Duffy from the the top after being at pole postion with her debut album ‘Rockferry’ for the past month.
The band were in the UK a fortnight ago to showcase their new songs at a special ICA show at the Royal Albert Hall (pictured above) which was broadcast live on Radio 2, as well as an iTunes fanclub show.
The only other new entry in the top 20 album’s chart this week is Gnarl’s Barkley second album ‘The Odd Couple’ which charted at 19.
The Black Keys acclaimed album ‘Attack & Release’ enters the chart at number 34.
Over on the UK single’s chart Estelle‘s collaboration with Kanye West, “American Boy” remains at number one for a third week.
The Kooks also score a top 10 single, with “Always Where I Need To Be” charting at number 3.
Meanwhile, Mariah Carey who last week broke Elvis Presley‘s US chart record with her 18th number one single, “Touch My Body”, charts in the UK at number six.
