'Best Of' albums never do a band justice. Often they include the radio friendly tunes in an attempt to woo new listeners so that the record companies can make more money for themselves. More often than not they alienate the real fans by offering an album full of previously available studio tracks and nothing new.
WOM is no different. For people who have never heard Pixies before, this is an album containing alot of the groundbreaking tunes that the band rolled out first time around during the late 80's early 90's. For the long term die hard fans this is a complete and frustrating waste of time.
There is no denying that Pixies are one of the most important bands of recent times, producing cutting edge songs, which influenced the likes of Radiohead, Bowie and Nirvana. However, with their small number of studio albums widely available on the internet at a very cheap price there is no need for this 'Best Of' offering. Why waste money on this purchase when for a little more one can own their complete back catalogue, containing gems such as Cactus, I've Been Tired, Space I Believe In and so on.
