Latitude 2009

Countdown to Latitude. . . Jarvis Cocker

John Mulvey

JARVIS COCKER

Perfectly sandwiched between The Rapture and headliners Arcade Fire on the final day of this year’s Latitude Festival, quintessential English eccentric Jarvis Cocker will suit the site’s leafy glades to a tee.

The music he’s been making as solo artist, however, reveals more than his long established talent for witty lyricism and his fondness for classic pop with a slight Gallic twist. Anyone who’s yet to experience the fury and disappointment expressed in ‘Running The World’ – complete with ‘c’ word – might be surprised, but Cocker’s both a gentle soul and a charismatic performer and his set will surely be one of the festival’s highlights.

Jarvis Cocker plays the Obelisk Arena on Sunday July 15. Latitude takes place July 12 - 15 at Henham Park, Southwold, Suffolk.
