Check Wild Mercury Sound every day for rash, ill thought-out, yet strangely trustworthy reports on the best forthcoming releases. From forthcoming blockbusters and choice reissues, to underground treasures - we hear them here first

The 32nd Uncut Playlist Of 2008

This week's playlist, then. Still no sign of the complete Bob Dylan album, I'm afraid, though compensation of sorts comes from The Grateful Dead's "Rocking The Cradle", which proves that their 1978 shows by the pyramids in Egypt weren't quite as shabby as myth has suggested. "Fire On The Mountain" and "Shakedown Street", in particular, are strong enough to make me want to re-evaluate that late '70s studio stuff.

Continued...

In other news, readers of this blog will be pleased to see that my self-improvement programme has begun with "Rumours". But a return to usual practises this week, so I'll avoid highlighting any real shit here (not sure there is any, to be honest; I love "Oh Carolina") after the fallout from Playlist 31. . .

1 Isaac Hayes – Hot Buttered Soul (Universal)

2 The Grateful Dead – Rocking The Cradle: Egypt 1978 (Rhino)

3 Growing – All The Way (The Social Registry)

4 Shaggy – Oh Carolina (Island)

5 El Guincho – Alegranza (Young Turks)

6 Voice Of The Seven Woods – The Journey (Kning Disk)

7 Gang Gang Dance – Saint Dymphna (Warp)

8 Julian Cope – Black Sheep (Head Heritage)

9 Dungen – 4 (Subliminal Sounds)

10 Fleetwood Mac – Rumours (Warner)

11 Trees – The Garden Of Jane Delawney (SonyBMG)

12 School Of Seven Bells – Half Asleep (Ghostly International)

13 Anni Rossi – Afton (4AD)

14 Franz Ferdinand – Lucid Dreams (Domino)

hey there first of all, if you feel like crossing the channel, there's a bunch of decent shows in Paris, early october (Jenny Lewis on the 8th, and The Hold Steady (for their first ever show in Paris, if I'm correct), the following day...(of course the Kurt Wagner/John Convertino club show on the 8th of september is more than promising, a long time ago Lambchop, Calexico and Vic Chesnutt played together in Paris, and I have fond memories of that night) I haven't listened to much new stuff lately (the Lewis album is growing on me, and I still love the Lambchop album very much). The Bodies of Water album is kinda excellent (Pixies + Mamas and Papas, perhaps), with an amazing track called Darling be Here. The O'Death is fun, if you're into Sixteen Horspower... Temporary People, by Joseph Arthur is a good suprise, though, he's back to a fuller band sound, with less self-indulgence and it works great.

Hey John what is your take on new Verve album. I see that Sam Richards has given 4 stars to the album, but I'm interested in your opinion. I remember you weren't all that pleased with Love Is Noise. Sorry if you blogged about this before.

Damn, I was also very hopeful based on those Thaw Sessions from last year, it seemed as return of their early sound. Well it seems that Ashcroft has got his way again over McCabe.

Very disappointed, Goran, especially after that jam they leaked last year and the comeback show I saw at the Roundhouse.

What's your opinion on the new Dungen? That's one of the records I've been most looking forward to, having loved the last two, especially Ta Det Lugnt...I hear it's mostly piano-based this time round...

hum, great to see you got Kurt Wagner to play Club Uncut...he'll be playing Paris a couple of days earlier, I'll let you know how it went...(but we also got Joey Burns (and not Convertino as previously stated), so it should a special gig, I imagine...
