More on that 'new' Dylan album - including a title!
2007-10-01 16:28:07
I don’t know how he’s come by the information, but I’ve had an email from the splendidly-named Raul Spendliv, who has more news on the ‘new’ Bob Dylan album I mentioned in this space recently.
While a few readers thought reports of a new Bob album, to be produced by Rick Rubin, were merely rumours with not much to them, Raul has details of an actual album title and three of the tracks either recorded or at least written for the album.
According to Raul, the record has the tentative title of Anchor, and the three tracks so far worked on are: “What Angel Fell”, “Hard Lines” and “Coming In From The Cold”.
If anyone has any more news on this, let me know.

Sounds odd - how would he have titles of tracks which were written but maybe not recorded? The titles DO sound right, though, and we can but live in hope!
"Coming in from the cold" - is this Bob's take on the second great Bob - Marlay?
Again - we can but hope!

I'm still suspicious about this. I bloody well hope it's true though.

Hi Allan, I hope that it's true. It's about time Dylan goes back into the studio but I surely hope the result is NOT another Modern Times. I don't need this kind of uninspired redone musik. Where is the sence of The Great White Wonder? Time out of mind was that kind of musik. Bob, sing for US again and not for AM-Radio!!!

Is this true? Can't help but be a little suspicious."What Angle Fell" - tip of the hat to his 1984 cover of Willie Nelson's 'Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground' - and 'Hard Lines' - the oft covered 'Hard Times'? - dont sound quite right, and the Bob Marley link has already been mentioned. Then again, we had Workingman's Blues #2 after Bob toured with Merle Haggard, so who knows. Would be nice to have a new album though, especially with Rick Rubin's imput. And maybe he could use some of the soundtrack songs from the past few years. I quite liked 'Tell Ol' Bill'

Amen. I have trouble figuring out what people are talking about with Modern Times.

It wasn't long ago that you were peddling another new Bob Dylan album, supposedly called "Blue Eyes in the Darkness."
Is this a good way to get hits?

I am not saying this isn't rtue, bnut is there any reason to believe it is?

I find this suspicious to say the least. How would Bob have a title for an album before its truly underway? And "Coming Inb From The Cold" bears a resemblance to an old song Bopb & Helena Springs wrote in '77 or '78. mNot to suggest it wouldn't be possible for Bob to revisit his back pages but he rarely does. I don't know--I'm not digging on what Raul is offering.

I have been picking up rumours that Dylan has studio time booked for January....so this might well be the real deal........and The Bobcat can do Modern Times part two for me ANYDAY.

I'm very excited about the idea of Bob teaming with Rick Rubin. I think that production is not the best part of Bob's game. Hey, and maybe he's got Charlie Sexton and Larry Campbell on speed dial. Anyway, if there's a Dylan album, call me for dinner honey and I'll be there!

well, maybe it is true, maybe it isn´t; who knows? we´d better think it over

Reports from Nashville were that Dylan had studio time there with his band before the shows at the Ryman to put down tracks for a new album. Any time there's a studio involved there's a possibility for leaks - could be the source of the title and song information. Hope it's true. With all the attention on his past - Newport dvd, retrospective, I'm Not There - it's very plausible that he would want to put out new material to remind everyone that he's still around, still creatively engaged.

Give me more of those ancient lyrics and that modern times groove baby!

Who, exactly, is Raul Spendliv and why should we trust his e-mails?

I'm a sessionman in Dylan album
but i've worked for a lost song "Bullet day"

I've loved the last few songs Dylan's done as sountracks (see Waitin' For You from "Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood", Tell Ol' Bill from "North Country" and Huck's Tune from "Lucky You".), so hopefully he'll be continuing in that vein. I'm reticent about building up hopes though just in case it doesn't materialise. Here's hoping Bob!

When Dylan releases this next rekkid, I guess he's going to "drop 'Anchor'."
HEE HAW

Well, there's sure to be a new album SOMETIME; so anybody who keeps saying a new one is in the works is bound to be right about it eventually. Regardless, I won't be listening to it till it's released. And that is that. What's the point of discussing the rumor of its supposed existence? To what end?
